Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and prepare a 9-inch by 13-inch (or equivalent) baking dish by greasing it well with some butter. Set aside.

For the filling:

  • In a large bowl combine the apples, blackberries, lemon juice and zest, sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon and nutmeg. Toss everything together gently.
  • Scoop the filling into the baking dish and even out the top.

For the crumble topping:

  • In a separate bowl, combine the flour, sugar and cinnamon for the crumble topping with a fork or a whisk.
  • Add the cubes of cold butter and use your hands to mix them into the flour mixture until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs (kind of like wet sand).
  • Sprinkle the topping mixture over the filling in the baking dish in an even layer.
  • Place the baking dish in the oven and bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool for about 15-20 minutes before serving with some vanilla ice cream.
