Ingredients

  • 2 cans tuna packed in water 5 ounce cans (or 150 grams)
  • 2 tablespoons light mayonnaise or plain full-fat Greek yogurt for a lighter version
  • 1 medium onion finely diced (white, yellow, or red all work)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper or to taste
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped celery optional

Instructions

  • Open both cans of tuna and drain thoroughly, pressing the lid down firmly to remove as much liquid as possible.
  • Transfer the tuna to a medium mixing bowl and break it up with a fork.
  • Add the mayonnaise (or Greek yogurt), Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, finely diced onion, salt, and pepper. Add the celery if using.
  • Mix gently. Fold everything together with a fork until just combined.
  • Add more salt or pepper to taste, if desired.
  • Cover and refrigerate for 10 minutes to let the flavours come together, or serve it right away in sandwiches with lettuce, in wraps, or as a spread with your favourite crackers or pita chips.

Notes

Greek yogurt swap: Use the same amount of plain full-fat Greek yogurt in place of the mayonnaise for a lighter, higher-protein version.
Tuna choice: Both oil-packed and water-packed tuna work, although water-packed tuna is much lower in fat and calories. Drain whichever you use thoroughly.
Storage: Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Don't freeze. Tuna salad shouldn't sit at room temperature for more than 2 hours (1 hour if above 90°F).
Make-ahead: Can be made up to 1 day in advance – the flavour gets better as it sits in the fridge.
