*I originally posted this recipe in March 2016. I’m re-sharing today with updated photos, a video tutorial, and the same no-fail Kale Chips recipe you know and love! If there’s one food I might not be able to live without, it is potato chips. And movie theatre popcorn wins a close second place… What can I say? Savoury snacks are my weakness and I’ll always choose a salty treat over a something sweet. But when it comes to healthy eating goals, potato chips and butter-soaked popcorn aren’t exactly the best choices for a snack, am I right?
While I do believe in moderation when it comes to healthy eating, and enjoying treats every now and then is never off the table, I love trying new healthy snack recipes to enjoy so when I came across the Oh She Glows tutorial for Flawless Kale Chips I knew I had to try it. I had made Kale Chips in the past but the results were hardly edible. This time, they turned out perfectly crispy and crunchy! They’ve quickly become my new favourite healthy snack!

How to make crunchy Kale Chips
The trick to these Sea Salt and Garlic Kale Chips is to massage only the tiniest bit of olive oil into every crack and crevice of each kale leaf, season them lightly with salt and a little bit of garlic powder, and bake them to perfection low and slow. The only downside to this recipe is that you have to let the kale chips cool on the pan for about 5 minutes before enjoying them, to make sure they stay crunchy and crispy. That is, if you can wait that long to dig in!

No Fail Sea Salt and Garlic Kale Chips
Recipe: Ingredients
- 1 medium-sized bunch of kale washed and dried very well
- 2 tsp olive oil
- a pinch or two of salt
- a pinch of garlic powder
Recipe: Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Wash and dry one bunch of kale, making sure the leaves are completely dry. If there's any moisture left on the leaves you'll end up with soggy kale chips.
- Rip the leaves off the stems and away from the chewy veins of the kale and into chip-sized pieces.
- Arrange the pieces of kale on an unlined baking sheet.
- Drizzle the olive oil as evenly over the kale as possible. Using your hands, gently massage the oil into the kale leaves, making sure to massage the oil well into all the folds and onto the entire surface of each of the kale leaves. At first it may not seem that 2 teaspoons of oil will be enough but adding more oil will only add too much moisture. If you find you need a tiny bit more oil, add it one drop at a time.
- Once you've finished massaging the kale, sprinkle a pinch or two of sea salt and a pinch of garlic powder over the kale and add the pan to your preheated oven.
- Bake for 10 minutes. Rotate the pan, flipping any pieces that are starting to look crispy and bake for another 10-15 minutes, watching the pan closely for the last 7-8 minutes to prevent over browning.
- Remove the pan from the oven and leave the kale chips on the pan for 3-5 minutes before serving to they can crisp up even more!

Very easy and Delicious 😋 👌
Thanks Denise!
How long is the shelf life
This is a great recipe! Befire this, my kale chips had turned out easily burned and turn soft after a while. This time round, the kale chips turn out ultra crispy and scrumptious with the tinge of garlic powder! Thanks a lot!
So glad you enjoyed the recipe!
I could get used to this… I’ve tried this before and it just didn’t work for me, it was either burnt or soggy so it went straight to the trash can. But I thought how can they enjoy it and I can’t so told myself I shall not give up since I’m trying to do the keto diet and potato chips is just a big no no on this diet. So this time it came out perfectly crunchy and yummy I was surprised! Thanks to you.
So glad you liked the recipe!! Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a comment!
Tried these, first time doing kale chips ever. Not a huge kale fan and mine was already going quite limp. Followed the directions to a T and they turned out perfect. Tastes quite similar to roasted pumpkin seeds. Will definitely make again
Glad you liked them! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment!

I found if i put the oil in a small bowl and dip two fingers from each hand in it and rub each kale piece this way it works great!
I guess I’m lazy. I put the kale in a large bowl, drizzled some olive oil and then just massaged it into the leaves in the bowl, not necessarily each leaf on the pan like the video.
Then poured then onto the baking sheet.
These turned out yummy…what is the best way to store the leftovers?
I store mine in a paper bag to maintain the crispness, although I don’t usually have leftovers! 🙂
Makes a wonderful snack. Highly recommended.
Thanks so much!
These are wonderful! What a great recipe to make with the kiddos.
Thanks so much! Glad you liked them!
Hello! Can you do in air fryer?
I don’t have an air fryer, so I can’t tell you what the instructions would be for the air fryer. Good luck!
Makes a wonderful snack. Highly recommended.
Thank you Rimmy!!🙂
I just made since I had a lot of kale leaves for smoothies. Super easy and love the flavor. Will use this recipe again.
Glad you liked the recipe Kristen!🙂
Here is another thing that I did: I did half the batch instead of the full one because I had a feeling that we wouldn’t be able to eat everything in one night. Once again, I will definitely be making these kale chips again!
Thanks Dianne! Yes, I love them too, as I rather crave savory snacks over sweet🙂
If you follow this recipe, it turns out great!
Thank you Harriett!!🙂
Sounds yummy! I’ve never made kale chips but it sounds like I should!
Yes, they are! You should definitely try them out!🙂
Just made your Kale Chips and they are VERY GOOD. I like this recipe because it calls for ‘totally dry kale’ that makes for a nice crisp chip. I planted kale in my garden this year and have way more than I can eat in salads so this is a niee treat for me. Thank you so much.
So glad you like it! 🙂
Good recipe….would you consider adding Vitamin K to the nutrition info? People on blood thinners esp Warfarin would benefit from being aware . So few products list Vit K. Kale is loaded with Vit K . Cheers from Jean Palmer, Winnipeg
Manitoba.
Thanks Jean!🙂
This recipe looks great! I bought a bunch of kale and have been wanting to make kale chips! One bummer, I could hardly even get to the recipe because SO many ads popped up! I almost just cleared out of your website because it was so frustrating.

Thanks for your feedback, as i am always adjusting the frequency of the ads on my website. I hope you stick around and keep enjoying the free recipes!
I made these day before yesterday and they are wonderful. Thank you!!
Glad you like them Elizabeth!🙂
It’s healthy and tasty. I try make it. Thank you for recipe!
Exactly, thank you Melissa!🙂
These kale chips came out great! Followed the recipe, then got brave and switched the oven setting to convection. They came out perfect in about 6 min. Had to really keep an eye on them. Thank you!
Glad you liked them! 🙂
They are undoubtedly no fail kale chips ever. A very good snack for a day with snow fall. Loved them, thank you for the recipe.
Thank you so much for the comment!!
You’re welcome Vineet Gill!
So delish! I put a few drops of EVOO on my hands and rub the whole, clean & dry kale leaves, into every crack & crevice as you instructed. Then I tear them into bits, easier than massaging the small pieces. Perfect recipe!
Great idea Joan! Thanks so much for your feedback!🙂
I’m looking to make this today, but not sure how long after cooking it’s good for. Any ideas? I would love to use this throughout the week for a snack.
If you keep them in a cool, dry place they’ll stay crispy for 3-5 days
Our kale chips turned out perfectly! Crispy and delicious! My husband and 3-year-old loved them as well!! Thank you so much!
You’re welcome Ashley!!😊
Super yummy! I used macadamia oil, splash of Himalayan salt and minced garlic…I had 3 big bunches of kale to make these awesome chips to snack on….thankfully I don’t have to share since my husband isn’t into healthy eating, lol!
Glad you enjoyed them!!
These are a total game changer! I made these before and they didn’t come out nearly as good! These will be a staple in my house from now on!!
I’m glad you enjoyed them! They are a staple in our house too! ☺️
I used about a half a roll of paper towels (thank God for compost) getting them dry, but my husband said, “WORTH IT!” And my 4 year old son loved these as well!
Thanks so much for your comment Bronwen!!😄 Really glad they turned out amazing!!
I used a tea towel to dry mine. A salad spinner gets most of the job done. Great recipe!!
Thanks Dee!
My oven allows me to set the temperature very low, 150 degrees. After I washed, tore up and spun the kale, I laid them out on a sheet and baked them for 10 minutes at 150 degrees. They were completely dry!
Thank you for posting the lower temperature! The 1st batch of kale chips I made was amazing, the 2nd batch a few months later had to be tossed because they cooked and got limp before they dried out. I’m thinking that my new gas oven may be the issue. It heats up much faster than my old oven and I’ve noticed a lot more condensation on the oven door with the new oven. The lowest temp on my new oven is 170 degrees F and the lower temperature seems to be working very well!
Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback!
These are amazing!!! I over salted mine but they were still delicious. I need more!!!
Thanks Reichel!!
I was a bit apprehensive to try these as although I know it’s good for you, I hate kale. I tried the recipe though as was pleasantly surprised. Salt really does make everything taste better!
Exactly!! Glad you like the recipe!🙂
I came across a 1 LB bag of chopped kale by Taylor Farms that are thoroughly washed & ready to eat and thought….hmmm I could use this for kale chips. Over the years I have tried with fresh, without success ; you know, washing and drying using up rolls of paper towels or kitchen towels.
Your recipe and most importantly directions worked perfectly. The kale is chopped so the ‘chips’ are quite small but I’ll be on the look out for Taylor Farms kale products that aren’t chopped next time.
Thanks

Hi, Admin. Thanks for your nice suggestion. You have made a very good list, I must say. All these information are good for our health. Thanks for the helpful article.
We agree 😉 Thanks!
Love this recipe! I have it memorized by now, I’ll always make my kale chips this way from now on. Thank you for sharing!! 🙂
Thanks Michelle! So glad you loved them!!
I’ve attempted this previously and it simply didn’t work for me, it was either scorched or wet so it went directly to the garbage bin. In any case, I figured how might they appreciate it and I can’t really let myself know I will not surrender since I’m attempting to do the keto diet and potato chips is only a major no on this eating regimen.
I’ve made this recipe many times and I found that the oven matters a lot. If your oven doesn’t bake evenly, I suggest you watch them and turn them half way through the cooking time. I have struggled a bit with them myself, when I started using a new oven, but don’t give up! Once you figure it out you will never stop making them! Hope this helps ☺️
I’m sure the recipe is good. But I have to close too many ads before I can even see my screen, and scroll though more before I can even find the recipe. How much days did I waste trying to find this? Ugh.

Made these with my daycare kiddos. So delicious and simple. It was great having them wash and massage the oil into the kale. Of course eating them was the best part!
I’m so happy you enjoyed them! Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback!
These are totally no fail! Your technique of drying thoroughly, massaging in the oil and baking temp/time is bang on. Thank you for this. I’ll be making kale chips much more often now and will be experimenting with different seasonings.
I’m so happy you enjoyed them! Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback!
I am not into typically “healthy” snacks like this – but I was inspired by a friend, and this recipe came out perfect! I monitored the kale to not over-cook, and even I like them! Thank!
I’m so happy you enjoyed them! Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback!
I prefer to put the oil and the seasonings in a large stainless bowl and blend together – then toss the kale and massage before placing on the sheet pan. I feel it more evenly coats them. May need to add an extra minute of cook time depending on the size of your leaves.
We’re so happy you enjoy it! That sounds like a great method. Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback!
They turned out GREAT. And such an easy recipe to follow. Only HUGE issue was storing them. I made them late at night so couldn’t eat them all. NOTE TO SELF – don’t put them in a lided container! They are all soggy this morning. 🙁 But still yummy! I wish I’d read the comments and seen to store then in a breathable paper bag. Noted now and will do next time.
Thanks for the great recipe!!!
We have included the storage suggestion in the recipe notes so it’s easier to find.
It’s amazing how tasty these kale chips are! My husband even loves them 🙂
We’re so happy you and your husband enjoyed them! Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback!
Even the husband likes it!

Thanks for the very helpful instructions and tips. Unfortuntely, as an engineer, my head explodes when I try to follow any recipe that uses pinches of spices.
Well, technicality a pinch would be 1/16 of a teaspoon which isn’t really a measurement that we use but more than that, we wanted to express the fact that you can add more or less salt as you prefer because the amount of salt doesn’t influence much in the cooking process of this particular recipe. I personally prefer my kale chips saltier while Chrissie likes hers less salty.
Nice information
Thanks!
