Want to make these chicken burgers NEXT LEVEL delicious? Here’s all our favourite pro tips and tricks for making the perfect burger!
For a finer texture of the onion which will blend in better with the other ingredients and add more moisture to your burgers, grate your onion instead of dicing it finely.
Mix everything very well to ensure even distribution of all ingredients, but don’t use a mixer or spoon as this can cause you to overwork the meat mixture, making it tough and dry.
After forming the burger patties, chill them in the fridge for 15-30 minutes if time allows. This helps them stay firm and helps the flavours combine.
To make sure you get evenly shaped burgers, use a burger press if you have one. This helps with even cooking since the burgers are an even thickness when you use a press.
Your target should be 165 degrees Fahrenheit (74 degrees Celsius) for a perfectly juicy burger. Removing them from the heat right when they reach that temperature ensures they are cooked and safe to eat, but not dry and crumbly.
Be sure to rest the burgers for 10-15 minutes right after you cook them. This helps them stay juicy on the inside and makes them easier to handle.

If you’re running into any trouble with this chicken burger recipe, here are some possible problems you might encounter and how to fix and prevent them:
Make sure that the burger mixture is well combined and not too wet. If needed, add a little extra panko breadcrumbs. Excess moisture can create texture issues, and it can be caused by the fact that all ground chicken isn’t created equally – some varieties have a higher fat and lower water content, and others will have more water and less fat.
Make sure you only cook the patties until they reach 165 degrees Fahrenheit (74 degrees Celsius) and let them rest after. This will ensure you get moist patties every single time.
Season your patties well with salt, pepper, and herbs. Make sure you also use delicious condiments on your burgers when you serve them, but be sure to add enough seasoning to the burger mixture so they have lots of flavour.
Oil your grill pan or your grill well to prevent sticking. Trying to turn the burgers too early can also cause sticking – be sure to let the burger caramelize before trying to flip it. This caramelization will cause it to release from the hot pan.
Make sure your patties are all the same size and thickness by using a burger press or by weighing them. This will ensure they cook evenly.

Here’s all the basic kitchen equipment you’ll need to make these chicken burgers (paid links):

Here’s list of the ingredients you’ll need to make this Chicken Burgers recipe (paid links):
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 3/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 3 cloves garlic, finely minced or use 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon mustard
- 1/2 cup onion grated, shredded (preferred) or very finely diced

Time needed: 30 minutes
Here’s how to make these delicious chicken burgers!
- Make the burger mixture.
Add the ground meat to a large bowl along with the breadcrumbs, garlic, egg, Worcestershire, paprika, thyme, oregano, salt, pepper, mayo, mustard, and the grated onion.
- Combine the ingredients with your hands.
Mix very well with your hands until everything is evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
- Form the burgers.
Divide the mixture into 4 balls that are exactly the same size. Use a burger press to form the burgers into a patty shape, or use your hands to pack the burgers into evenly shaped patties.
- Grill the burgers.
Grill over medium-high heat (or fry in a frying pan over medium-high heat) for about 5-6 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature of the burgers reach 165 degrees Fahrenheit (74 Celsius) measured with an instant read thermometer.
- Add cheese, if you wish.
If you want to make chicken cheeseburgers, add a slice of cheese (we suggest emmentaler cheese) over each burger. If using a pan, add a couple tablespoons of water to the pan and put the lid on so that the steam melts the cheese.
- Rest the burgers before serving.
Remove the burgers from the heat and let them sit for about 5 minutes before serving. This helps them stay juicy and prevents them from falling apart.
- Serve.
Serve on toasted buns with lettuce, tomato slices, red onions, and a generous amount of burger sauce.

Can I make chicken burgers in advance?
Yes! These burgers keep well in the fridge for up to 3-5 days. Alternatively, you can form the patties and refrigerate them for up to 24 hours before cooking.
Can I freeze chicken burgers?
Yes! Freeze them before or after cooking between sheets of parchment paper. You can cook them from frozen by adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time and lowering the heat slightly or defrost them in the fridge before grilling.
Can I substitute chicken to ground turkey in chicken burgers?
Yes! Just make sure your burgers are seasoned well. You can take a teaspoon of meat mixture and cook it to taste them before cooking the rest of the mixture. If needed, add some onion powder, more herbs, or more salt and black pepper to make sure your turkey burgers are seasoned well.
What sauces should I serve with chicken burgers?
Use sriracha mayo, blue cheese sauce, tzatziki, buffalo sauce, burger sauce, or even some of your favourite ketchup.
What toppings are best with chicken burgers?
Use brioche buns, lettuce or coleslaw salad, pickles, pickled jalapeño, tomatoes, feta cheese and let everyone pick their favourites!
