I used to work a rather stressful, high capacity job outside the home before our kids were born. Now that I’m a mom and I stay at home with my kids every day (and work from home), I’m always finding new reasons to laugh at my former self and how busy I thought I used to be (if I only knew then what I know now!!). I’m not sure why setting the alarm 10 minutes earlier was such a big deal, but I never seemed to be able to get it together and eat a healthy breakfast every day and it’s something I still struggle with. As much as I find it difficult to make time for a healthy breakfast every morning, I know it’s important now, more than ever! I have two little sets of eyes watching my every move and if I’m encouraging them to eat a healthy breakfast then I’d better be prepared to practice what I preach.
Since I started blogging and it’s turned into a part-time job for me, smoothies have become my go-to breakfast. It’s so easy to chuck a bunch of healthy ingredients in the blender and it always yields a healthy result, and most importantly, it’s a breakfast I can enjoy standing up, while I’m chasing my kids around the house, and while I’m accomplishing all the morning’s tasks. As my kids have gotten older I’ve started sharing my smoothies with them and I’m always trying to come up with new smoothie recipes to keep it interesting for me and for my cute little self-proclaimed smoothie monsters.
This Berry Banana Oat Smoothie is one of our latest favourites. It’s only 4 ingredients that you probably already have at home and it makes the most delicious breakfast! It’s sweetened only with fruit, it’s dairy-free, vegan, and if you use gluten-free oats it makes a great gluten-free breakfast too. I love that it’s packed with whole grain oats because it keeps me full all the way until it’s time for lunch. I just know you’re going to love this smoothie as much as we do!

Oooooh! I've been on a huge smoothie kick lately, but haven't tried oats in a smoothie yet. Such a great idea!
Thanks! You'll love it! Oats add a nice smooth texture and an earthy flavour 🙂
I start everyday with a breakfast smoothie so this recipe is ideal for me. Love it!
Thanks! I like to start almost every day with a smoothie too!
Would milk work?
