My 3-year-old loves smoothies. Like, absolutely LOVES them. She’s normally a pretty good eater but she will eat pretty much anything if I put it in the blender and call it a smoothie so I’ve gotten pretty good at coming up with super healthy concoctions that work for the kids and also for me.
Because I have a one-year-old and a three-year-old, getting out the door in the morning can be a bit crazy and skipping breakfast is just not an option for any of us (if you’ve ever dealt with a hungry toddler, you’ll understand!). It’s become my routine on busy mornings to throw together a quick smoothie that I can serve to the kids (along with their toast, oatmeal or eggs) and I can take on-the-go as my breakfast. This recipe is not complicated but it contains several servings of fruit and protein to keep us going until lunchtime, all with a smooth vanilla flavour. It’s easy to customize to your tastes and dietary preferences and I think you’re going to love it!

1 ripe banana
2 cups frozen mixed berries (I use mainly blueberries with some raspberries and blackberries. These flavours go nicely with the vanilla)
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
1/3 cup fat-free Greek yogurt + 2/3 cup ice-cold water OR 1 cup coconut milk, almond milk, or soy milk (your choice!)
To make:
Add the banana, frozen berries and vanilla to your blender.
Add the Greek yogurt and water OR the milk-substitute of your choice.
Blend until smooth, and serve!

I love this smoothie because it’s the perfect quick breakfast or snack and it’s great for kids! And the vanilla does a great job of enhancing the sweetness of the banana and the berries so you don’t need to add any fruit juice or sweeteners!
I hope you enjoy this one! Let me know in the comments below, what’s your favourite on-the-go breakfast?

Love me some smoothies. I love pomegranate and peaches. Basically anything that is about to go bad goes into the freezer for smoothies. Add a scoop of protein and it's a complete meal on the go!

We love smoothies a lot too! 😀

This is pretty much my go-to smoothie recipe! So easy and filling for breakfast. I normally add a little cinnamon and/or nutmeg but love the addition of vanilla and plan on trying it this weekend! My sister made homemade vanilla extract so that'll be a great recipe to try it in.
The Busy Baker says
Glad you like this recipe! I hope you enjoy it with the vanilla extract too!
A Scientist in the Kitchen says
I love berry smoothies, too, though the vanilla extract seems like a must try.

I hope you enjoyed it! 🙂

We are huge smoothie fans here as well (especially the 2.5yo)! I too have started making them every morning and loading them with veg to try and stave off the snack requests I get a million times a day 🙂 This one sounds great!!
The Busy Baker says
I’m sure you’ll all like this recipe too!! 🙂
Krysta Harder says
How many servings are in this recipe?
Chrissie says
For the amounts listed I'd say 2 servings, but I'll be honest…if I'm doing an intense workout that morning and this smoothie is my breakfast I'll be able to down the whole thing myself! 🙂
