If you’ve been gifted an air fryer for the holidays and it’s been sitting on your shelf collecting dust, or if you’ve been thinking about picking up an air fryer for awhile but haven’t yet, we’d HIGHLY recommend getting started. An air fryer is a fantastic kitchen appliance for achieving that oven-crisp or fried texture in a fraction of the time with next to no added fat, and to be honest it’s a kitchen appliance we’d have a hard time living without!
Here are a list of air fryers we recommend (paid links):
- A great Air Fryer for space-saving (2 quart capacity)
- The perfect Air Fryer for large families with a dual basket feature
- A standard Air Fryer for everyday use (works well for a family of 2 to 4 people)
- A large Air Fryer for everyday use (works well for a family of 2 to 4 people)
You’ll also need this basic kitchen equipment for this recipe (paid links):
Here’s the list of ingredients you’ll need to make Brussels sprouts in the air fryer (paid links):
- 1 pound brussels sprouts
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Time needed: 20 minutes
Follow these steps for the best Brussel Sprouts in the air fryer!
- Preheat your Air Fryer.
Preheat your air fryer to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius) while you get everything else ready.
- Prepare the Brussels Sprouts.
Wash and dry your Brussels sprouts. Trim the Brussels sprouts’ ends and take off any outer leaves that are yellow or brown. Split each one in half, lengthwise. Make sure that all the Brussels sprouts are roughly the same size so that they cook evenly, you might have to cut the bigger ones in quarters.
- Season.
To a mixing bowl add the olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder and the grated parmesan over the Brussels sprouts and shake well to mix.
- Air Fry,
Spray oil your air fryer basket/tray and cook at 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius) for 12 minutes, shaking the basket/tray vigorously halfway through.
- Preheat your air fryer at 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius) while you get everything ready.
- Don’t thaw your Brussels sprouts at all. If there’s excess ice buildup on them, rinse them under water and dry them with paper towels.
- Add the Brussels sprouts to a bowl and mix with the oil, spices and grated parmesan.
- Place in the air fryer basket/tray and air fry at 400 F (200 C) for 10 minutes.
- Take out and shake very well.
- Air fry again for another 7-8 minutes. The Brussels sprouts are done when they start to brown.
Should Brussels sprouts be dry before roasting?
We recommend removing any excess water from the Brussels sprouts before air frying or roasting. This will help them to become crispy and will cause them to roast instead of steam.
Why won’t my Brussels sprouts get crispy?
If your air fryer Brussels sprouts are soggy or too moist it’s probably because the air fryer is overcrowded. Be sure to air fry in a single layer, leaving room between them for air movement.
Is it better to roast Brussels sprouts whole or halved?
We recommend air frying Brussels sprouts halved instead of whole because it helps them become more crispy and allows the steam to escape from the inside of the Brussels sprouts.
How long does it take to cook air fryer Brussels sprouts?
Cooking Brussels sprouts in the air fryer takes about 12 minutes when the brussels sprouts are halved.
Do I need to use oil when cooking air fryer Brussels sprouts?
A small amount of oil helps in achieving a crispy texture, but it is optional. You can also use an oil spray to lightly coat the Brussels sprouts.
Can I make air fryer Brussels sprouts in advance?
While they are best served immediately, you can cook them in advance and reheat them in the air fryer for a few minutes before serving.
Do I need to shake the basket during cooking?
It’s a good idea to shake the basket halfway through cooking to ensure even crisping and cooking.
Can I cook frozen Brussels sprouts in the air fryer?
Yes, you can use frozen Brussels sprouts, but the cooking time may need to be adjusted according to the instructions in this recipe.
