Can this home made orange chicken be made with chicken not on the bone?
Yes it can be made with chicken not on the bone but the bake time changes so use a meat thermometer so it doesn’t overcook and become dry.
Will this recipe work with skinless chicken drumsticks?
We would suggest using chicken thighs instead. But skinless meat will be more dry than a piece of meat with the skin on.
Can this home made orange chicken be made without an oven?
Yes, you can fry everything in the pan. Cover the pan and lower the heat. The cooking time needs to be extended to allow the chicken to cook through.

Easy One Pan Orange Ginger Chicken
Recipe: Ingredients
- 1-2 tablespoons olive oil
- 10-12 chicken drumsticks, bone-in and skin-on
- salt and pepper
- 1 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed, or whatever you have)
- 3 tablespoons liquid honey
- a squirt of sriracha (according to your tastes)
- 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 4 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 teaspoons sesame oil
- 1 1/2 teaspoons freshly grated ginger
- 3 cloves garlic, finely minced
- orange slices, sesame seeds, and fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Recipe: Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Heat a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat and add the olive oil.
- Pat the chicken drumsticks dry with paper towels and season with salt and pepper.
- Place the chicken drumsticks in the oiled pan and cook on all sides until golden brown. No need to worry about cooking the chicken through at this point – just get a good golden crust on it!
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the orange juice, honey, sriracha, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, soy sauce, cornstarch, sesame oil, ginger and garlic until well blended.
- When the chicken has browned on all sides, pour the sauce over the chicken evenly to coat and turn off the heat under the pan.
- Place the pan in the pre-heated oven and bake for about 25 minutes or until the sauce has reduced and thickened and the chicken is cooked through.
- Baste the chicken with the sauce once during the baking process, if desired.
- Serve with orange slices, a sprinkling of sesame seeds, and fresh parsley, if desired.

Oh golly, this looks so good. You may have mentioned this but, I didn’t see it. Could I use chicken not on the bone?
It’s definitely possible, although the baking time will change significantly. I’d recommend using a meat thermometer to make sure the chicken doesn’t overcook and become dry 🙂
Could one use skinless and boneless thighs?
Yes! Sure. But keep an eye on it as it will cook faster than the bone in one!
I need to try this immediately, it looks so good! This looks delicious!
You’ll love it!
Hello, i dont have a oven can i use a pan to fry everything?

Thanks so much Ashok!!
This sounds delicious. Would this turn out as good with skinless chicken drumsticks?
If you want to make it with a skinless piece of meat I would suggest you use chicken thighs. However the skinless chicken piece might get a little more dry than a skin on piece.
Made tonight for the first time. It is awesome. A new favorite in our house. The whole family loved it.
I’m so glad that you enjoyed it! Happy cooking!☺️
I forgot to add that we served the chicken with rice and fried asparagus. Perfect compliment.
