Hey friends! I’m excited to be sharing one of our family’s favorite recipes with you today: this Slow Cooker Apple Crisp. It’s one of those recipes that’s so amazingly simple, but yet it’s so delicious it’s hard to believe that it truly is THAT simple to make!
My husband’s favorite dessert of all time is any kind of fruit crisp and if you can believe it, when we got married almost 13 years ago my baking skills weren’t even close to what they are today. I have served him burnt or “over-crisped” fruit crisp many times, which is kind of embarrassing if I’m really honest with you. I’ve gotten a lot better at my fruit crisp recipes over the years and last year I tried making an apple crisp in the slow cooker for the first time. I’ll let you decide whether or not it was a success…
Making apple crisp in the slow cooker is pretty much the most genius idea ever because it ensures a deliciously caramelized fruit base and a perfectly baked topping that’s equal parts crispy and chewy and just plain awesome. Seriously, this Slow Cooker Apple Crisp is one of the best fruit crisps I have ever, ever had.
My husband follows a dairy-free diet, so I regularly substitute margarine or coconut oil for the butter in this Slow Cooker Apple Crisp with great success. This recipe is perfectly adaptable for gluten-free diets too – just substitute oat flour for the all purpose flour! And top it with whatever you choose: ice cream, coconut cream, yogurt, whipped cream, caramel sauce…the sky’s the limit!
And aside from the deliciousness-factor, making dessert in your slow cooker is just a whole new level of keeping it simple. I love making this Slow Cooker Apple Crisp when company comes over because it’s simple to throw together in advance and it’s ready to serve whenever our family or friends show up. And it’s always met with rave reviews from our dinner guests, of course!
