Now of course, this is not a healthy recipe – however I do believe it’s a step up from store bought garlic bread not only in the flavour department, but also because it contains no artificial preservatives or chemicals – just good old bakery French bread (made from flour, water, yeast and salt!), good quality butter, garlic and parsley. That’s it!! So for your next Italian feast, skip the grocery store garlic bread and make your own!

Easy Homemade Garlic Bread

- 1 large loaf of French bread bakery-style, unsliced
- 1/2 cup salted butter softened to room temperature
- 3 cloves garlic crushed and pressed
- 1 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley or 1 tablespoons fresh chopped parsley
Recipe: Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Slice the French bread into 3/4-inch slices (about 12 slices per loaf).
- In a small bowl, combine the butter, garlic and parsley until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Spread a generous amount of the butter mixture onto one side each of the slices of French bread and place them back into the shape of the loaf (this will ensure there is some of the butter mixture between all the slices).
- Wrap the loaf tightly in aluminum foil and bake on a baking sheet in the middle of the oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is crispy and the butter has melted and soaked into the bread.
- Serve immediately.

If using unsalted butter add about 1/2 teaspoon salt, or more to taste. You can also use a vegan butter substitute or margarine. Instead of the fresh garlic, feel free to substitute 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder, if desired.Storage Instructions
Store any leftovers in an airtight container or ziploc bag and reheat in the oven wrapped in foil or in the air fryer.Freezer Instructions

I have been making a similar version for years. I add parmesan cheese to butter mixture then butter up both sides of slices, place on lg cookie sheet, bake at 350 on convection until golden. Sooooo yummy

Looks wonderful! I am a little confused with the recipe and the video. The video calls for unsalted butter, for you to add salt. How much salt is added? I can’t wait to try this!
I use about 1/4 teaspoon with unsalted butter, but you can use up to 1/2 teaspoon, depending on your taste.

Yes you can do that. I store it in the fridge for about 2 days maximum. And it freezes well too, before baking.

Great recipe i love it, i love how you also include the ingredients of the French loaf! But I’m quite confused, maybe the use of Western English differs slightly from mine which is Southern African.

Can you please include a pic or better yet a video?

Love this recipe! I’ve made this 3-4 times and absolutely love it. I also make my own french bread since it’s easier and cheaper to make my own 🙂 A friend of mine also tried this recipe a few days ago and also enjoyed it.

I like to add some olive oil to the mixture make it a bit healthier, plus it absorbs nicely into the bread. I prefer to thickly slice the bread, lay it flat under the broiler on a baking sheet to give it a toasted texture. This works nicely if you add parmesan.

Yes! You can thaw it to room temperature before baking as directed in the recipe.
I’ve been making this always everyday since my kids keep asking for it. I use french bread from Walmart bakery that’s only 1$ each. I spread some of the butter mixture on top and sprinkle kraft Grated parmesan cheese and before I bake it in the oven and it turned out really good.
