Follow these steps for the BEST fajitas!
- Slice the chicken thinly.
The key to quick cooking is thinly sliced chicken. Slice the chicken to about 1/2-inch thick.
- Preheat your air fryer.
Preheating your air fryer cuts down on cooking time.
- Season the meat and vegetables separately.
You’ll cook the veggies alone first, so season the chicken and veggies in two separate bowls.
- Air Fry the veggies first.
Cook the veggies alone first for 8 minutes, then add the chicken and cook for another 3-5 minutes.
- Test the temperature of the chicken.
Use an instant-read thermometer to make sure the chicken pieces reach 165 degrees Fahrenheit (74 degrees Celsius)
- Serve with your favourite fajita fixings.
We like shredded lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, avocados, and cilantro!
Can I make this recipe ahead of time?
Yes! Simply prepare the chicken and veggie filling and store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days until ready to use.
Can I freeze these chicken fajitas?
Yes. We recommend freezing the chicken and veggie filling in an airtight freezer-safe container, or freezing the filling in individual portions for a quick and easy meal option.
How do I reheat these chicken fajitas?
To reheat the fajita filling, add it to the air fryer and air fry at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 5-6 minutes or until warmed through.
Do I have to season and cook the chicken and veggies separately?
We recommend following the recipe as written. This will make sure your veggies are perfectly cooked and the chicken doesn’t overcook and dry out.

Air Fryer Chicken Fajitas
Recipe: Equipment
Recipe: Ingredients
For the chicken:
- 1 pound boneless chicken breasts or chicken tenders
- 2 tablespoons taco seasoning
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder optional
- zest and juice of one lime
For the veggies:
- 2 medium yellow onions sliced
- 3 medium bell peppers sliced (use red, yellow and green peppers, as you prefer)
- 1 tablespoon taco seasoning
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- zest and juice of one lime
- cooking spray
To serve:
- fresh tortillas
- avocado
- sour cream
- cilantro
Recipe: Instructions
- Slice the chicken thinly (½ -inch wide slices). In a bowl add the spices and the lime juice and zest to the chicken, mix well and set aside.
- Preheat your Air Fryer to 400 F (200 C) while you get everything else ready.
- Slice the onion and thinly slice the bell peppers. You want all your veggies to be cut to roughly the same size and thickness. Add the spices and the lime juice and zest to a bowl with the veggies and mix well.
- Spray the bottom of the air fryer with cooking spray and add your veggies. Air fry at 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius) for 8 minutes, shaking the basket/tray halfway through. Be careful not to overcrowd the veggies, so you may need to air fry them in two batches.
- Add the chicken slices on top of your veggies and spray them with a bit of cooking spray. Air Fry for 5 more minutes or until the internal temperature of the chicken is 74 degrees Celsius. You may need to do this in batches, depending on the size of your air fryer, to avoid over crowding.
- Remove the chicken and veggies to a serving platter.
- Serve with tortillas, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream, and avocado.
