If you’ve been gifted an air fryer for the holidays and it’s been sitting on your shelf collecting dust, or if you’ve been thinking about picking up an air fryer for awhile but haven’t yet, we’d HIGHLY recommend getting started. An air fryer is a fantastic kitchen appliance for achieving that oven-crisp or fried texture in a fraction of the time with next to no added fat, and to be honest it’s a kitchen appliance we’d have a hard time living without!
The first item you’ll need to make this steak fajita recipe is, of course, an air fryer! If you don’t already have one, here are a few we recommend (affiliate links):
- A great Air Fryer for space-saving (2 quart capacity)
- The perfect Air Fryer for large families with a dual basket feature
- A standard Air Fryer for everyday use (works well for a family of 2 to 4 people)
- A large Air Fryer for everyday use (works well for a family of 2 to 4 people)
To make this steak fajitas recipe you will also need these kitchen items (affiliate links):
- a pair of tongs
- mixing bowls
- a cutting board
- a sharp knife
- measuring spoons
- an instant-read thermometer
- a serving platter
To make this steak fajita recipe, you’ll need:
- steak (Flank steak, ribeye, or sirloin steak works well)
- taco seasoning
- smoked paprika
- garlic powder
- ground cumin
- chili powder
- fresh lime
- onion
- red, yellow, and green bell peppers
- cooking spray
Time needed: 25 minutes
Follow these steps for the BEST fajitas!
- Slice the steak thinly.
The key to quick cooking is thinly sliced steak. Slice the steak to about 1/2-inch thick.
- Preheat your air fryer.
Preheating your air fryer cuts down on cooking time.
- Season the meat and vegetables separately.
You’ll cook the veggies alone first, so season the steak and veggies in two separate bowls.
- Air Fry the veggies first.
Cook the veggies alone first for 8 minutes, then add the steak and cook for another 3-5 minutes.
- Serve with your favourite fajita fixings.
We like shredded lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, avocados, and cilantro!
What kind of steak for fajitas?
The best steak for fajitas is flank steak or ribeye. Sirloin steak also works well.
Can I make this recipe ahead of time?
Yes! Simply prepare the steak and veggie filling and store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days until ready to use.
Can I freeze these steak fajitas?
Yes. We recommend freezing the steak and veggie filling in an airtight freezer-safe container, or freezing the filling in individual portions for a quick and easy meal option.
How do I reheat these steak fajitas?
To reheat the fajita filling, add it to the air fryer and air fry at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 4-5 minutes or until warmed through.
Do I have to season and cook the steak and veggies separately?
We recommend following the recipe as written. This will make sure your veggies are perfectly cooked and the steak doesn’t overcook and dry out.
We hope you love this dinner recipe as much as we do! Let us know in the comments below, what’s your favourite easy meal to make in the air fryer? We’d love to know!

- 2 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- ½-1 tsp cumin powder to taste
- ½ tsp chili powder optional

Recipe: Instructions
- Slice the steak thinly (1/4 -1/2 inch). Add the steak slices to a bowl along with the spices and the lime juice and zest. Mix well and set aside.
- Preheat your Air Fryer to 400 F (200 C) while you get everything else ready.
- Slice the onion in wedges and thinly slice the bell peppers. You'll want all your veggies to be cut to roughly the same size. Add the spices and the lime juice and zest to a bowl with the veggies and mix well.
- Add the veggies to the Air Fryer spraying the bottom of the Air Fryer and the top of the veggies with spray oil. Cook at 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius) for 8 minutes, shaking the basket/tray halfway through. If you have a small air fryer, cook only half the veggies (you'l have to cook in two batches).
- Add the steak slices on top of your veggies and spray them with a bit of oil. Air Fry for 3-5 more minutes or until the internal temperature of the steak is 54 degrees Celsius. If you have a small air fryer, cook only half the steak (you'l have to cook in two batches).
- Remove the veggies and steak to a serving plate (and cook the other half of the veggies and steak, if your air fryer is too small to accommodate the whole batch).
- Serve with fresh tortillas, cilantro sour cream, cheese, avocado and limes.
