This Instant Pot Honey Garlic Chicken is one of our go-to quick meals because it’s simple, the ingredients are almost always in my freezer, fridge, or pantry, and it’s a crowd pleaser every single time!
Why Make Chicken in the Instant Pot?
Using the Instant Pot is a great way to keep the chicken juicy and full of flavour without all the time that stove-top braising or slow cooking requires. We love this Instant Pot Honey Garlic Chicken with our family’s favourite easy mashed potatoes, but you can choose whatever side dishes your family likes best!
How to Make Chicken Drumsticks in the Instant Pot
- Pat the chicken dry with kitchen paper.
- Season the chicken on all sides with salt and pepper.
- Brown the chicken in the Instant Pot on saute mode.
- Combine the sauce ingredients.
- Pour the sauce into the Instant Pot over the chicken.
- Add and seal the lid, turning the valve to “Sealing”.
- Set to “Pressure Cook” for 6 minutes.
- Once it’s done, release the pressure manually (to save time) and remove the lid.
- Serve with rice or mashed potatoes, and drizzle the sauce overtop!

Instant Pot Honey Garlic Chicken
Recipe: Ingredients
- 12 chicken drumsticks
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- salt and pepper (a few pinches each)
- 1/2 cup liquid honey
- 1 tablespoon butter melted
- 5 cloves garlic finely minced
- 1/2 cup ketchup (we like the Heinz brand for this recipe)
- 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
- sesame seeds and chopped green onions for garnish
Recipe: Instructions
- Pat the chicken drumsticks dry with kitchen paper towel and season it with salt and pepper
- Heat up the instant pot on "Saute" mode and add the oil. Brown the pieces of chicken on all sides. You may have to do this in batches.
- While the chicken browns, combine the honey, butter, garlic, ketchup and soy sauce in a bowl, whisking it together to form a smooth sauce.
- Add all the chicken pieces back into to the Instant Pot and add the sauce overtop.
- Add and seal the lid, turning the valve to "Sealing". Set to "Pressure Cook" for 6 minutes.
- When the Pressure Cook time is finished, carefully turn the release valve to "venting" using a long pair of tongs or another long kitchen tool so you don't burn your hand, arm or face. It's a good idea to do this under an exhaust fan in your kitchen, if you have one.
- Remove the lid, sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions (optional), and serve over rice or with mashed potatoes.

Awesome entree. My family likes it a little sweeter so I used 2/3 cup of honey instead of 1/2 cup.
