I don’t know about you, but Salmon is one of our family’s favourite main dishes to make on busy weeknights for so many reasons…everybody in our family loves it, it cooks so fast, and it’s a healthy option full of flavour and good fats. I like to keep salmon filets in the freezer for when I need dinner in a pinch, and this One Pan Herb and Garlic Butter Salmon is one of my go-to easy salmon recipes because it’s on the table in 20 minutes!
How to Cook Salmon
My absolute favourite way to cook salmon is in my tried and true Cast Iron Pan because it gives the salmon the perfect golden brown caramelization on the outside and it holds the heat evenly, cooking the salmon filets evenly on the inside. I sometimes use a combination of stove-top browning and oven-baking for salmon (like in this Maple Glazed Salmon recipe), but this recipe is made only on the stovetop, making it even easier! And once it flakes with a fork or reaches an internal temperature of 62 degrees Celsius (145 Fahrenheit), it’s done!

One Pan Herb and Garlic Butter Salmon
Recipe: Instructions
- Heat a large heavy-bottomed skillet over medium high heat and add the olive oil.
- Pat the salmon filets dry with some kitchen paper towel and season the salmon filets with the salt and pepper.
- When the skillet is hot, add the salmon filets to the pan and let them cook for about 5 minutes on the first side.
- While they cook, mix the butter, dill, parsley, basil and garlic in a bowl.
- Flip the salmon filets after 5 minutes and place a spoonful of the garlic herb butter mixture on top of each salmon filet as it cooks on the other side for about 5 more minutes.
- The butter will melt into a sauce. Spoon the sauce over the salmon filets as they finish cooking (5-7 minutes per side will do it). Measure the internal temperature to make sure each filet reaches 62 degrees Celsius (145 Fahrenheit).
- Serve with a salad, rice, potatoes, pasta, or your favourite side dish.

This was amazing! I bought a 2.25 lb piece of salmon and cut it into approximately eight fillets. Of those, my husband and I each ate one because my kids ate 3.5 and 2.5 each. Delicious and I am getting fish and greens into my kids!
So glad to hear that!! Thanks for your feedback Eliana!!
This was so good! Too hot to use the oven but had some some beautiful salmon and asparagus to use. One pan, 20 minutes, and absolutely delicious 😋
