- tongs
- a grill pan or outdoor grill
- glass dessert bowls for serving
To make this delicious summer recipe you’ll need these ingredients:
- fresh ripe peaches
- plain Greek yogurt
- honey or any other vegan substitute (like agave nectar or maple syrup)
- chopped walnuts
- Tropical: Instead of walnuts, sprinkle shredded coconut over the yogurt for a tropical flavour. Try adding a squeeze of fresh lime juice, too!
- Chocolate: Replace the walnuts with chopped dark chocolate for a decadent touch. Add a pinch of sea salt over the yogurt for a delicious salty-sweet combination.
- Citrus: Zest an orange or a lemon and mix it into the Greek yogurt for a burst of citrus flavour. Brush the peaches with lemon or orange juice before grilling.
- Berry: Add some strawberries to the grill with the peaches and add a few into each dish with the peaches and yogurt.
- Spice: Add a touch of warmth to the recipe by mixing ground cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice into the Greek yogurt. Finish with a drizzle of maple syrup for a cozy fall-inspired dessert.
Time needed: 15 minutes
Follow these steps for the perfect grilled peaches!
- Set your grill to low heat.
Preheat your barbecue or grill and set it to the lowest heat setting. Fruit is full of natural sugars, so it can burn easily if the grill heat is too high.
- Prepare the peaches.
While the grill is preheating prepare the peaches by washing them and cutting them in half, removing the pits.
- Watch the peaches carefully.
Grill with the skin side up and remove them from the grill when you see the edges of the skin start to char just slightly. By the time this happens, you’ll also be able to touch the skin of the peach and feel that the fruit underneath has softened slightly with the heat.
- Assemble and serve.
Add your greek yogurt to individual dishes, place the peaches on top and garnish with honey and walnuts or your choice of toppings.
How long does it take to grill peaches on the grill?
Grilling peaches takes about 5 to 8 minutes on the grill.
Should peaches be ripe before grilling?
Ripe peaches are best for grilling because they’ll have the best flavour, but it’s also possible to grill peaches that are slightly underripe with good results.
Can I use a grill pan or stovetop grill for grilling peaches?
Yes! If you don’t have access to an outdoor grill, a grill pan or stovetop grill works just fine. Preheat the grill pan over medium heat, and follow the same grilling instructions for peaches as you would on an outdoor grill.
Do I need to peel peaches before grilling?
It’s not necessary to peel the peaches before grilling. The skin adds flavor and helps the peaches hold their shape. However, if you prefer to have peeled peaches, you can gently remove the skin before grilling.
Can I grill frozen peaches?
We recommend using fresh or thawed peaches for grilling. Grilling frozen peaches may result in a watery texture and uneven cooking.
