Our family absolutely loves mushrooms, and we like them best as a side dish alongside grilled chicken or steak with roasted or mashed potatoes and lots of delicious veggies. These White Wine and Garlic Mushrooms are my go-to side dish any time of the year, but I especially love them in the summer since we’re doing so much grilling. White Wine and Garlic Mushrooms
Recipe: Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons butter (or vegan butter)
- 6 cups white button mushrooms, washed and dried
- 1 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves, roughly chopped
- salt and pepper
- 3 tablespoons white wine
- garnish with fresh thyme (optional)
Recipe: Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the butter.
- When the butter is melted, add the mushrooms and toss them in the butter until coated.
- Let the mushrooms cook for about 1-2 minutes tossing them once or twice, and then add the garlic powder, thyme, and a pinch or two of salt and pepper.
- Continue to cook for about 4-5 minutes until the mushrooms begin to cook down and release their juices.
- Add the white wine and continue to cook, uncovered, for about 8-10 more minutes until the wine cooks off and the mushrooms reach a golden brown colour.
- Serve with a sprinkling of fresh thyme.

I really like the fact that you do not need an extensive range of ingredients to make it. You only have to make a few of these ingredients to get the perfect food for your wine.
Wonderfully simple yet elegant and a versatile recipe depending on which type of wine you choose – the dish can take on a different flavor. I served with some crusty French bread to soak up yummy mushroom juice and a green Parisian cafe salad. It was a light delicious meatless meal. Definitely a keeper! Yumm
