We love a good blended coffee drink on a warm day. This Frappuccino is our favourite way to enjoy a delicious copycat Starbucks Frappuccino without all the guilt and without draining our wallet in the process! This homemade version is only 150 calories per serving, it’s easy to make in minutes in your blender at home, and it costs only pennies per serving!
A Frappuccino is a term coined by the Starbucks coffee company – it’s a blended beverage made up of ice, milk, coffee, sweetener, and optional flavours and toppings such as whipped cream or flavoured syrups. It is a versatile drink that can be made a variety of ways to suit your tastes and preferences!
Here are a few of the reasons we love this Frappuccino recipe!
- It is EASY to CUSTOMIZE: You can make this Frappuccino to suit your diet. Are you following a vegan diet? Make it with almond or coconut milk! Eating Keto? Make it with stevia instead of honey! Watching your caffeine intake? Try it with decaf coffee. The possibilities are endless!
- It is so EASY to MAKE: You can make this easily at home with a good-quality, high-powered blender like this one from Blendtec (paid link). Simply throw in all the ingredients and pulse on high speed until smooth.
Follow these tips to make the best Starbucks Frappuccino at home!
It is important to use chilled or room temperature coffee to keep the flavour at its best without being watered down. A chilled glass will also help the Frappuccino stay cold.
Make sure there is a balance between the ice, the coffee, and milk. If there is too much ice, it will taste more watered down, too much coffee and it’ll be too strong.
Use the milk that suits your taste preferences. Whole milk is most often used but you can use whichever you prefer and you can even make it dairy-free.
Add the ingredients to the blender and blend until frothy and smooth. This ensures there aren’t large ice chunks in the mix.
Taste test the Frappuccino after it’s blended and adjust sweetness as needed. Often, less is more when honey is used as the sweetener.
If you have any issues making this Starbucks Frappuccino at home, try our recommendations below:
If hot coffee is used, instead of using coffee that is cooled or chilled, it will melt the ice and water down the Frappuccino.
Make sure to blend just until it’s frothy and smooth. Over-blending will melt the ice completely.
Make sure to blend until smooth. If you don’t blend it long enough, there can be large ice chunks left behind.
Make sure you use strong brewed coffee or espresso so that the coffee flavour stands out. If weaker coffee is used, the coffee flavour taste may not come through.

Yes, you can make this Frappuccino with instant coffee or instant espresso.
Can I make this Frappuccino ahead of time?
We don’t recommend making this Frappuccino ahead of time. It’s best served immediately after blending to maintain the blended ice texture. If you do decide to make it ahead of time, store it in the fridge in an airtight container, adding the whipped cream and toppings when ready to serve.

Hello!
Is it possible to make this without milk and just use water and get it to the same thickness?
Thank you!
Sophia
Since Frappuccinos are typically creamy I’d recommend adding some kind of milk instead of just water (use almond milk, coconut milk, or other nut milk if you’re dairy-free). You’ll still get almost the same thickness with just water since the blended ice adds thickness, but the flavour and creaminess won’t be the same.
This recipe is delicious! Thank you for sharing! I have been looking for a healthy alternative to keep in line with my daily calorie limit, and this is perfect 😊
You’re welcome Ainsley!!🙂
This is so good! The best way to start your day!☕
I know, right!?🙌🏻 Thanks Marilyn!
If I were to throw some dark chocolate chips into this, how close do you think it would taste to a Java chip frapp?
That sounds like an amazing idea. I think I have to make a frappuccino now 😂
I made this last night, and it was delicious! My husband said it was the best coffee he’s ever had. I reduced the honey a little bit. PSA to anyone reading this: Even though it says two servings, it’s so good you will drink the entire thing! I’d suggest doubling the recipe for two drinks.
We’re so happy you and your husband enjoyed it! Thank you for your feedback!
I have enjoyed making these for years. I have replaced the honey with sugar free coffee syrups, and the calories are even lower. Hooray!
I’m so happy you are enjoying it! Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback.
