How to Make Tahini Dressing
Time needed: 10 minutes
Follow these steps for the creamiest tahini lemon dressing!
- Choose high quality ingredients.
Choose a high quality tahini for this recipe for best results. Hulled tahini is creamier than unhulled tahini, which makes it great for this dressing, and it’s usually more readily available too.
- Use fresh lemon (or lime).
Fresh lemon juice and zest takes this recipe over the top! Don’t skip it, and choose fresh, not bottled, lemon juice.
- Whisk vigorously.
Whisk well by hand or use a salad dressing shaker or hand-held immersion blender to combine the ingredients.
- Add the water slowly.
The amount of water needed will depend on what kind of tahini you use, so add the water slowly in a steady stream, whisking well, and stop adding water when you reach the desired consistency.

Tahini Dressing
Recipe: Ingredients
- ½ cup tahini
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- juice of 1 lemon zest optional (about ¼ cups), or use 2 fresh limes
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoon dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
- 1 clove garlic finely minced, or ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon fresh cracked black pepper
- ½ cup cold water or more to your preference
Recipe: Instructions
- Add everything but the water to a mixing bowl and whisk vigorously until creamy and smooth.
- Add in 1/4 c of the water and start whisking slowly, increasing your whisking speed as the water combines with the rest of the dressing. Drizzle in more water slowly and whisk until you achieve the preferred consistency of your dressing. Our preference is to use the whole 1/2 cup of water.
- Serve over your favourite salads, or store in the fridge in a jar or other airtight container until ready to serve.
