These Greek Smash Tacos are a quick and easy dinner made with ground chicken smashed onto tortillas, simple Greek salad, feta, and tzatziki. They’re fresh, healthy, ready in just 25 minutes and perfect for busy weeknights!

These Greek Smash Tacos are one of those easy dinner ideas that feel super fresh and fun without taking much effort at all. You get a crispy tortilla, savoury seasoned chicken, cool crunchy Greek salad, and creamy tzatziki all in one bite. They’re fast enough to make for a busy weeknight, but they’re unique enough to feel like a meal everyone in the family will actually get excited about.
What makes them so good is the contrast of textures and temperatures. The chicken cooks right on the tortilla, which gives you a beautifully browned and flavourful base, and then everything gets topped with bright, fresh Greek salad and a generous drizzle of cool, creamy tzatziki. They’re so simple, SO satisfying, and perfect for busy families with kids because you can serve them fully assembled or let everyone build their own with their favourite toppings!

This recipe works because it keeps the cooking method super simple while creating plenty of flavour. The seasoned ground chicken cooks directly on the tortilla in the hot skillet, so you get a savoury, browned meat layer and a crisp tortilla – all at the same time. That one step is what makes smash tacos so clever for quick dinners.
It also works because the toppings do a lot of the work. Greek salad brings crunch, freshness, and a little bit of acidity, while the tzatziki adds that cool, creamy finish that ties everything together. Instead of feeling heavy, these tacos stay bright and fresh.
And from a real-life dinner perspective, they’re so practical. The ingredient list is straightforward, the cooking time is short, and the whole meal feels customizable for picky eaters and kids. That makes them especially good for families, casual entertaining, or any night you want something just a little bit different without making dinner more complicated than it needs to be.

Flour tortillas work best here because they’re flexible, hold their shape well, and crisp nicely in the skillet without breaking. Avoid corn tortillas or other gluten-free tortillas that are more delicate.
As the chicken cooks, it shrinks slightly. Spreading the ground chicken close to the edge of the tortilla helps make sure there’s chicken in every single bite.
A thinner layer of chicken cooks more quickly and browns more evenly, which is exactly what you want for smash tacos.
If you want the chicken to brown quickly and the tortilla to crisp up nicely, the pan should be properly heated before the tacos go in.
These smash tacos are at their best when the taco base is still warm and crisp and the salad is still cool, fresh, and crunchy.
If you’ve got picky eaters at the table or family members with allergies or food intolerances, set out the chopped salad ingredients (veggies, feta, olives, and tzatziki) separately and let everyone make their own version.

Time needed: 25 minutes
- Prep the toppings first.
Before you start cooking the tacos, get the Greek salad and tzatziki ready to go. These tacos cook fast, so it helps to have the fresh toppings waiting.
- Season the chicken well.
Mix the ground chicken with the salt, pepper, garlic powder, basil, and oregano until everything is evenly distributed. You want that seasoning throughout the meat, not just on the surface.
- Smash the chicken onto the tortillas.
Divide the chicken into four equal portions and press each one onto a tortilla in a thin, even layer. Get it close to the edges, because the meat will shrink as it cooks.
- Cook the meat side first.
Add the tacos meat side down to a hot skillet with a little spray oil. This is where you get the flavourful browning that makes the whole recipe work.
- Flip and finish on the tortilla side.
Once the chicken is browned, flip the tacos and let the tortilla cook until it’s lightly golden and crisp. You want it warm and crisp, but still flexible enough to fold and eat.
- Top and serve right away.
Pile on the Greek salad, add the tzatziki, and serve immediately while the base is still crisp and the contrast between warm and cool is at its best.

- Use ground turkey instead of chicken. Ground turkey works very well here and gives you almost the same texture and flavour.
- Use store-bought Greek salad or tzatziki. If you need a shortcut, both are great options. This recipe is all about making dinner easier, so use the shortcuts that help.
- Add feta and olives generously. If your Greek salad is more simple or veggie-heavy, a little extra feta and olives on top can make the tacos feel more flavourful and complete.
- Make them spicy. Add a pinch of chili flakes to the meat mixture or finish the tacos with hot sauce if your family likes a little heat.
- Add chopped romaine for extra crunch. If you want a fuller topping, a little chopped romaine mixed into the Greek salad works really well.
- Try ground beef or lamb. Chicken keeps the tacos lighter, but beef or lamb gives them a richer, more traditional Greek-style flavour profile.
- Turn them into bowls. If you don’t want to use tortillas, the same seasoned chicken, salad, and tzatziki combination works beautifully in rice bowls.

These tacos are definitely best served fresh, but the components can be made ahead and stored separately until you’re ready to cook and serve.
If you do decide to cook them ahead of time, store the cooked taco bases in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat them in a skillet or air fryer for the best crispy texture. The microwave works in a pinch too, but the tortillas will be softer if you reheat them this way.
Store the Greek salad separately and keep the tzatziki in its own container. That way everything stays as fresh as possible and you can assemble the tacos just before serving.
It’s best not to store fully assembled tacos, since the salad and sauce will soften the tortilla very quickly. If you want to get ahead, prep the salad and tzatziki in advance and cook the taco bases right before serving.

These tacos are filling and hearty enough to stand on their own as a meal, but they pair really well with a few simple sides.
Roasted potatoes or homemade fries or potato wedges are an easy and hearty choice if you want to turn them into a bigger meal.
Rice also works really well if you’re serving them as part of a family-style dinner.
And if you’re serving a crowd, these are perfect with a toppings bar and a few easy sides so everyone can build their own plate just the way they like it!

Can I use ground turkey instead of ground chicken?
Yes. Ground turkey works very well in this recipe and gives a very similar result to the ground chicken. They can be used interchangeably.
What kind of tortillas work best for smash tacos?
Flour tortillas are the best choice here because they hold together well and crisp up nicely in the skillet.
Can I use store-bought tzatziki?
Absolutely. Store-bought tzatziki is a great shortcut and works very well for this recipe.
Do I have to make the Greek salad from scratch?
No. You can absolutely use a prepared Greek salad from the grocery store if that makes dinner easier for you.
Why is my chicken shrinking on the tortilla?
That’s completely normal. Ground meat shrinks as it cooks, which is why it’s important to spread it as close to the edge as you can before it goes into the skillet.
How do I keep Greek Smash Tacos from getting soggy?
Make sure the Greek salad is not too wet, use a thick tzatziki, and add the toppings just before serving.
Can I make these ahead of time?
The toppings can definitely be prepped ahead, but the tacos themselves are best cooked fresh or reheated just before serving.
Can I make these with beef or lamb?
Yes. Both work well and give these tacos a richer flavour. Lamb is a particularly good choice with Greek flavours.
Are these kid-friendly?
Yes, especially if you serve the toppings separately and let everyone build their own taco.
Can I cook these in cast iron?
Yes. A cast iron skillet works beautifully for smash tacos because it holds heat well and gives you nice browning.

- 4 flour tortillas
- 4 cups Greek salad Get my easy Greek Salad recipe here
- 8 tablespoons tzatziki sauce Get my easy Tzatziki recipe here
- chopped fresh parsley optional, for garnish
Recipe: Instructions
For the fixings:
- Chop the tomatoes, green pepper, cucumber, and onion for the salad. Add the feta and olives, and toss with some red wine vinegar and olive oil (OR follow the recipe directions you can find here to make an easy Greek salad)
- Whip up the easy tzatziki sauce by mixing together the Greek yogurt and other ingredients. Follow the easy recipe directions you can find here to make a simple tzatziki.
For the tacos:
- Add the ground chicken to a bowl with the salt, pepper, garlic powder, basil, and oregano. Stir or mix with your hands until the spices are distributed throughout the ground chicken.
- Split the ground chicken in 4 equally-sized balls.
- Smash them on top of the 4 tortillas, trying to get as close to the edge as possible. The meat will shrink as it cooks so this step is important.
- To a large skillet over medium high heat, add a spray of oil.
- Once hot, add the tacos, meat side down and fry for 1-2 minutes until browned. Flip and cook for 1-2 minutes longer, until the tortilla starts to brown.
For serving the tacos:
- Add one cup of the Greek salad onto each of the 4 tacos, meat side up. Top with the tzatziki and serve immediately.
- Alternatively, chop the veggies for the Greek salad and leave them separate, allowing each person to add the veggies they like. Top with feta and tzatziki as desired.
