If you’ve been a reader of The Busy Baker for awhile now you’ll already know how much we LOVE making fresh food that tastes amazing. Salad dressings are something we almost ALWAYS make at home and to be honest, we’ll always choose a homemade salad dressing over a conventional store-bought one.
This Green Goddess Salad Dressing recipe is one of our favourite dressings to make because it’s SO unbelievably creamy, it’s packed with flavour thanks to all the delicious fresh herbs, and it’s absolutely delicious on almost any salad. It’s one of our go-to dressing recipes, and we just know you’re going to love it!
Green Goddess Dressing is a salad dressing that’s known for it’s bright green colour, thanks to the blended variety of fresh herbs it contains. It’s known to be super flavourful with a intense savoury flavour reminiscent of Caesar salad dressing, thanks to the anchovies or Worcestershire sauce that are commonly added.
It’s super creamy and smooth because it’s made by blending all the ingredients together in a blender, making it perfect for drizzling over salads or for dipping.
- It’s QUICK to make. Just chuck everything in the blender and that’s it! This dressing comes together in just a few minutes.
- It’s LOW in FAT. Most of the creaminess comes from Greek yogurt, not added oil, so it’s a relatively low-fat choice compared to most creamy salad dressings!
- It’s EASY. There’s not a lot of chopping involved because everything goes in the blender, so just chuck the ingredients in and let the blender do its work.
- It’s VERSATILE. Use it a a dip for veggies or drizzle it over your favourite salad or pasta salad – it’s delicious any way you enjoy it!
- It’s great to MAKE AHEAD. We love making a batch on the weekend and enjoying it on salads throughout the week because it lasts for several days in the fridge.
- It’s packed with FLAVOUR. The fresh herbs in this dressing give it tons of flavour, and the savoury flavour from the anchovies or Worcestershire sauce makes it absolutely delicious!

If you’re after the perfect homemade Green Goddess Salad Dressing, here are all our best pro tips and tricks for the best homemade dressing:
Choose a high quality extra virgin olive oil and full fat Greek yogurt as it makes a huge difference in this recipe. Be sure to choose high-quality ingredients when making salad dressings at home as this will make or break their flavour and texture.
Worcestershire sauce or anchovy paste seems like a weird ingredient to add to salad dressing, but it adds a ton of flavour!
Citrus adds a ton of flavour and gives this dressing a bright, fresh taste. It also helps preserve the fresh herbs in the dressing, keeping it nice and green.
A salad shaker or a good-quality mason jar is the key to storing homemade dressings and keeping them fresh and easy to serve. Be sure the salad dressing shaker or jar is airtight to maintain freshness.
Dried herbs don’t add enough flavour and colour to this dressing, so be sure to use fresh, bright green herbs for optimum flavour and colour.
Here are a few problems you might encounter when making homemade this Green Goddess Salad Dressing recipe and how to fix them!
Because homemade dressing don’t contain added ingredients like preservatives and stabilizers like store-bought dressings you can find at the grocery store do, they’ll separate when left to sit. Be sure to shake well before using or even blend with a hand blender, if you’d like.
Sometimes this dressing hardens or becomes overly thick when left in the fridge for several days. Again, this is because homemade dressings don’t contain preservatives and stabilizers. Simply leave the dressing out at room temperature for 30 minutes before shaking well and serving, or submerge the jar or container in some warm water to loosen up the solids before shaking and serving. You can also give it a good stir – this should loosen it up so it’s pourable.
This can be solved by tasting the dressing as you go, so be sure to do so! If you think it’s too acidic, feel free to add more oil. Salad dressings often seem less acidic when enjoyed on salad versus tasted from a spoon, so be sure to give it a chance.
